For this programme, you will be Virtual Orienteering using a GPS app called MapRun6, this involves you following an Orienteering course with the MapRun6 app recording the sites (control points) you visit along the way. Everything you need to know about virtual orienteering and the MapRun app can be found here – https://dublinsportfest.ie.
MapRun6 will have a Virtual leader board for each of the parks so you can compare your times and tracks to others taking part.
This event is open to everyone young or old and you can do it at a time that suits you.
The Easter event runs from Friday 8th – Sunday 24th April. You can have a go at a time that suits you during this time period.
Download MapRun6 from either the Apple Store or Play Store you can download the App in advance of the event. You will need to input some details on the App.
Once you have the App downloaded your challenge is to visit one or more of the named parks below and select Short Course B on the MapRun6 App.
You can print the map for your chosen park and bring it with you as you explore. The map will also be on the MapRun app on your phone but you will find it easier to have the paper map in your hand (plastic cover such as a poly pocket recommended for our unpredictable weather) and keep the phone in your pocket listening out for the ‘beep’ when you find a control!
YES! There will be a prize for the fastest time in each park, and everyone else who registers on the leader board will be in for a chance to win in a random draw.
Remember you need to go to the Start and Finish point for your attempt to be registered on the leader board. Don’t worry if you did not find all the controls. You can attempt the course as many times as you like.
